I like the Sunday afternoon jams in the parks. Please continue with these circles. Im open to providing a lift if needed for some.
Thanks Mike for putting together the survey, great idea.
What I would like most is to keep it at the same time and place every week, so we don’t need to keep checking email and having to keep different details in our heads every weekend, or end up accidentally going to the wrong place or at the wrong time. It’s nice to be able to tell people “come to the drum circle, it’s we every Sunday at [time] at [location].”
Whichever location is chosen, I think the most important criteria are:
- Somewhere we can use reliably, and not have to move because it’s regularly taken over by other events (eg. Confederation Park! I think all the other locations are fairly open…)
- Somewhere that has some overhead shelter so that if it rains, there is no need to cancel or move locations at the last minute
Bate Island is the only one I know of meeting both these criteria. (Though not sure, maybe there’s some sheltered area at Strathcona or Parc Moussette?)
Another point for Bate is that it has picnic tables, providing a place to sit for those who don’t have their own stools to bring.
Really, Bate is perfect!
But, bottom line is, I would rather have it consistently at any of those locations, and any of those times, than be switching around every week to try to accommodate different people’s preferences re: time or location (including mine).
It’s really too bad that ALL jams seem to be on Sundays. There used to be weekday jams during the evenings – especially given the long daylight hours of summer. At last count, there were 3-4 jams ALL taking place on Sunday afternoons. Mid- day on weekends tend to be difficult for anyone “with a life other than drumming”, family functions, camping, cottages etc… Whatever happened to evening jams- drumming is great in that you can jam anytime, day or evening? It’s too bad that the organisers of all the jams in Ottawa-Gatineau cannot colaborate on times that don’t conflict . ie Lac Leamy jam, Buckingham & Earthtones to mention just a few. I used to attend as many as 3 jams a week. Now I’ve had to give them all up due to their Sunday daytime schedules.
